Partnering for Student-Athlete Success
One of President Royce Engstrom’s top initiatives is improving facilities for student-athletes. On the outside, Grizzly athletic facilities look like the best in the Big Sky Conference. Washington-Grizzly Stadium and Dahlberg arena are appealing to both players and fans. On the inside, facilities used by student-athletes are sub-par compared to others around the league. The academic center, weight room, and locker rooms are cramped and poorly ventilated, and the roof leaks.
The University plans to construct a new academic center, renovate the locker rooms and expand the weight room. In addition, permanent lights for Washington-Grizzly Stadium have been installed.
President Engstrom says the new academic center is the most important part of this initiative. The athletic facility improvements align with two UM strategic issues: partnering for student success and providing a dynamic learning environment.
