James Uyeda brings over 15 years of nonprofit fundraising experience to the UM Foundation. Prior to this position, James served as Director of Development at the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF), the largest national healthcare organization focused on people with inherited bleeding and blood disorders. During his time at NHF, James rebuilt the development department by implementing best practices, policies and procedures to diversify the revenue of the organization. James was also involved in many internal and external working groups focusing on underrepresented populations within the bleeding disorder community, health equity, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development.

Before working at NHF, James held key positions with Sierra Nevada University, the Portland Japanese Garden and Ride Connection. Throughout his career he has successfully raised funds from annual campaigns, major individual donors, planned giving, corporate partners, private foundations, government funding agencies, including the National Institute of Health and the National Endowment of the Arts, and international foundations, such as The Japan Foundation.

Before entering the world of fundraising and nonprofit leadership, James was a special education teacher and has held various volunteer leadership positions, including chairing development committees and youth mentorship. He is a proud graduate of the University of San Diego.
