Dear Friends,

As the new year unfolds and the season offers an opportunity for reflection, I cannot help but feel convinced there is no stopping our giving community. You remained loyal, generous and joyful in your vision and commitment to the University of Montana and its students throughout the past year.

Evidence of that dedication is woven throughout this Raising Montana newsletter. In it, you will read examples of individuals and families who are passionately giving in support of the areas of the University that mean the most to them — scholarships for students who could not otherwise afford to pursue their degrees, an initiative that prepares students of all ages to excel at math and English, and a visiting writers program that will bring a prominent Indigenous writer to campus each spring.

This time of year also creates space for looking to the future, which for me generates a sense of profound excitement — about the opportunities ahead for us to come together to build UM’s future. In this issue, you’ll read about just a few of these opportunities, such as supporting additional student scholarships to enhance access to higher education and the improvement of campus facilities like the Music Building to bolster learning, collaboration and outreach.

In these pages you’ll also meet some of the University of Montana Foundation staff members working to inspire private giving to support the University. These team members are led by Kate Jennings, who advanced into the Vice President of Development role in September after having served the College of Business and the W.A. Franke College of Forestry and Conservation. With more than 20 years of fundraising experience, Kate offers valued expertise across our organization as we change lives at UM through the power of philanthropy.

Thank you for reading and for being a part of our giving community. Your generosity toward UM is integral to the University’s exceptionalism and is the cornerstone of its bright future. May the year ahead bring you good health and joy.

Sincerely,

Cindy Williams
