Gallagher Business Building Computer Lab Gets a Modern Makeover
Devin and Justine Iverson’s love story flourished in the second-floor computer lab of the Gallagher Business Building. Justine, a journalism student working at the printing station, met Devin, a business student who came in needing to print.
Soon, Devin became a regular — and Justine was giving him his printouts for free.
Now married and working in the tech, financial information and analytics industries, the Iversons were excited to learn recently the lab was being upgraded and eagerly joined other donors in supporting the project.
“The University of Montana is a very special place to us — we are thrilled to contribute to a project that we know will bring value to current and future Griz,” Devin said.
In April, the shared vision became a reality with the grand opening of The DEN (Discover, Engage and Network), a modern 4,000-square-foot lab designed for the next generation of student leaders.
The remodel removed most individual work-stations, replacing them with open tables and armchairs for group or solo work. Three group study rooms provide space for interviews, projects and networking.
“The DEN offers students the opportunity to use technology as part of a community space,” said Suzanne Tilleman, Sprunk and Burnham Endowed Dean of the College of Business. “It enhances collaboration and supports hybrid work and remote interviewing.
Natural light streams through new windows, a vibrant grizzly mural brightens one wall and a fireplace adds cozy charm.
The remodel, the lab’s first since the building opened in 1996, transformed the space into the go-to spot for business students preparing for the professional world — and, who knows, maybe the chance to spark something more.
