As the University’s 501(c)(3) fundraising partner, the UM Foundation’s Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations (UMF-CFR) provides a suite of services to support proposal development, submission, receipt and administration.

In partnership with the UM Foundation's Prospect Research team, UMF-CFR develops fundraising prospect lists and conducts detailed research on individual entities to support fundraising opportunities identified by faculty and campus leaders. The UM Foundation manages UM’s institutional fundraising database.

UMF-CFR supports Principal Investigators with proposal review, editing, process guidance and submission through the UM Foundation’s 501(c)(3) status. UMF-CFR also coordinates campus-wide application pipelines and limited submissions in collaboration with UM Research Development and the VP for Research.
Proposal Development Resources
UMF-CFR is UM faculty’s in-house fundraising consultant for strategies around engaging foundation and corporate partnerships. Resources to help you get started: -
UMF-CFR manages key UM donor partnerships and supports faculty in donor relationship management. Depending on the circumstances, UMF-CFR may play a donor-facing role or help Principal Investigators engage donors directly. UMF-CFR serves as the primary relationship manager for select donors, including but not limited to, the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation, M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust and W.M. Keck Foundation.

UMF-CFR helps Principal Investigators set up grants to be administered at the UM Foundation or sub-awarded to UM’s Office of Sponsored Programs for administration. Depending on donor and award specifics, UMF-CFR also assists PIs with managing and executing donor reporting requirements.
